Great Smoky Mountains, North Carolina.
Well I've only been meaning to post these pictures for what seems like forever now.... but I guess it's better late than never! Back in October I had the pleasure of taking a trip to North Carolina and visiting the Great Smoky Mountains with two of my best friends. Now if you know me at all, you KNOW how much I love the mountains. Especially in the fall. Just start talking to me and mention the mountains and/or the season fall and see how excited I get. Really though, try me. There's just something about the crisp mountain air and all the breathtaking autumn colors that is simply unbeatable, and this whole trip was nothing but that. If I could replay this weekend over and over again, I would. It was definitely one of the best times I can ever remember having. Most of our time was spent around the Nantahala National Forest which is where we stayed, (Thanks Kevin for sharing the absolute coziest cabin with us! :) but we also managed to visit Asheville, Black Mountain and a few other awesome little towns. While we were only able to stay a few short days, every minute of our time was surely well-spent. We saw the sun rise and set from two different mountain tops on the same day, spent a huge amount of time hiking and exploring the woods, drank morning cups of coffee wrapped in blankets on the front porch, enjoyed peace & quiet with no cell service, had adventures at abandoned fire towers, picked wildflowers and acorns, walked under waterfalls, had lots of bojangles and sweet tea, and our evenings consisted of bonfires and s'mores. It seriously does not get better than that. So blessed for this time and so thankful for the beauty that surrounds us on earth. Sometimes you need to just get out there and explore.
“Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out going to the mountains is going home; that wilderness is a necessity...” - John Muir
